Be the turtle - win the race

About a year ago I did an online course. It was 12 weeks and quite intensive. I learnt an awful lot but it was quite challenging given that my health took a downturn as I started. I managed to complete the course (barely) but wasn’t well enough to implement all that I had learnt for quite a while. People that had done the course with me seemed to streak ahead and were quickly gaining customers and making sales. I was pretty despondent. We are being conditioned that fast is better. That instant gratification is the norm and the first past the post is always the winner.
I decided that I would implement everything I learned but I would do it on my own timetable. If I couldn’t be available every day I would reliably available every week. It may take five times as long but so long as I started I would be 20% there after one year. Fast forward a year ahead and I am already on the way to achieving my goals. When I went back and really looked at the people I did my course with the ones who were highly visible were far ahead of me but they had indeed been able to devote more time and energy. There were also quite a lot who had completely dropped off the radar and some of them had never implemented any of the strategies that were learned or were still talking about what they would do once they started. I was already 20% in front of those people.
If you think that you are not going fast enough, if your health or disability is slowing you down and you feel like you’re not keeping pace with others don’t worry. As the fable goes, slow and steady can win the race! You’re already miles ahead of those who’ve not even begun to try and will always beat those who give up before the finish line. The greatest factor that determines business success is not speed but consistency! Keep going - run your own race.
Till next time,
Sarah-Jane
