Be Like Fozzie Bear - the bear we need

When I was a kid one of my favourite shows was the Muppet Show! I loved everything about it, the characters, the puppets, the colours, the humour but especially I loved Fozzie Bear. Fozzie Bear was really one of the underdogs of the show. He was a comedian who was not very funny. He was always stuffing up his routine but he had unfailing optimism and he was a regular fixture. I don’t think I realised it at the time but Fozzie really spoke to me. He kept on trying. He was always happy and nice to others and he just kept showing up. I think there’s a lot we can learn from that. Not all of us are born with buckets of talent that don’t require hard work. It can be really easy to get discouraged when things are not going well. To think that we are no good at something or don’t have the patience or the gifts for what we’re trying but I think we are also being conditioned these days for instant success. This person has 1,000 followers, this one made $100,000 in her first three months, this one learned coding from scratch and developed a world leading app. Fozzie bear reminds me that I may not be great at everything but giving it a go and trying again give me the opportunity to get better. I don’t have to measure up to anyone except myself. It also doesn’t hurt to remember that I’m not going to be good at everything I try and failure offers great lessons in what not to do next time! Fozzie’s persistence as well as his good nature seem even more relevant in the world at the moment. If I bring that not just to work but, to everyday, then I think I’ll be just fine. I’d love to know who your childhood hero’s were. Let me know.
Till next time.
