Was it a Revenge Attack?

One of the things I like to do at home is spend a bit of time in my little veggie patch.  I can’t claim to having terribly green thumbs but I get an enormous amount of pleasure from growing things to eat.  Now that our dog is a little bigger and not eating the plants i decided that I’d try again for some tomatoes ( tomato leaves can be toxic to dogs!).  I planted two kinds, little round cherry tomatoes and a larger variety I can slice for sandwiches.  I’ve already had my first cherry tomatoes and they were delicious and the first of the large fruit was just ripening nicely on the vine.  I was planning on having tomatoes on toast for lunch so I headed out to pick my newly red beauty - disaster!  Some evil little varmant had taken a big bite out of my pristine tomato.  He didn’t eat the whole thing, just took an enormous bite.  I was berating myself for not taking it inside sooner when I thought that maybe one of our resident possums had done it as a revenge attack for all of the grief that Dodger (the Jack Russell) gives them.

It doesn’t really matter the whys of it but, it is a reminder that sometimes the time is just not right.  Sometimes even when you’ve done everything right things just don’t work out.  It’s not always your fault when things don’t go according to plan. There can be any number of reasons something didn’t succeed.  This week has been filled with minor little problems.  I ordered new surrounds for my prints (ready for the last few orders before Christmas) and the supplier rang me the following day to say that they were having trouble due to machine failure.  Could I wait?  I had an order for a print and needed to change one of the inks in my printer after which it decided not to print any black!  I then ran out of ink and had to express order more.  Trying to get the machine running again depleted many of the other inks so now I need another express order but I’ve run out of watercolour paper.  If something doesn’t work out, first ask yourself it you played any part in the failure.  Not to criticise or berate yourself but so that you don’t make the same mistake again!  If it wasn’t because of something you did, was it an issue that might come up again that you could avoid?  If not move on.  You won’t be able to control everything. Being in business is not a success only journey and once you’ve been self employed for a while you realise that the more you can roll with the punches the happier you will be.

Till next time,
